A university hospital, a pioneer among Belgian shopping centres, Avenue de Tervueren and its parks: in the green east of Brussels, the two Woluwes combine very different journeys, with the airport close at hand.
Saint-Luc: arrive on time, leave without driving
The Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc, UCLouvain's teaching hospital, occupy the Brussels-Woluwe campus on Avenue Hippocrate. Patients come for a specialist consultation, a test or a day-case admission, sometimes from far away. By car, access is via Boulevard de la Woluwe and then Avenue Hippocrate, which climbs to the roundabout at the foot of the hospital. There is a drop-off zone in front of the main entrance: no need to venture into the campus car parks.
The driver drops you at this main entrance and collects you from the same spot. The service comes into its own after sedation or an anaesthetic, when you are advised not to drive: you get home without having to call on a relative. It is, however, private and non-medical transport; the patient must be able to sit in the vehicle, alone or with the person accompanying them.

From Woluwe Shopping to Stockel: shopping by car
Opened in 1968 on Rue Saint-Lambert, Woluwe Shopping is described as Belgium's first shopping centre built on the American model. Today it brings together more than a hundred shops, a stone's throw from Roodebeek metro station. At the end of metro line 1, Stockel, around Place Dumon, has more of a village atmosphere, with its food shops and boutiques. Either way, having a car at your disposal spares you looking for a space and carrying your bags to the car park.
Wide and tree-lined, Avenue de Tervueren runs through Woluwe-Saint-Pierre from Square Montgomery. Along the way you pass the Stoclet Palace, Josef Hoffmann's masterpiece decorated with mosaics by Klimt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that remains a private residence, then Woluwe Park and the Tram Museum. At the far end, beyond Brussels, the avenue leads to Tervuren and its museum devoted to Central Africa, a family outing that is easy to combine with a walk.
The airport within easy reach
Woluwe is already on the way to Zaventem: for Brussels Airport, there is no need to cross the centre. Depending on your address, the driver reaches the airport via Boulevard de la Woluwe or the Ring, joined at the Wezembeek-Oppem exit. An early-morning departure is therefore a short one, which matters to families at the European School of Brussels II, on Avenue Oscar Jespers, as much as to anyone who flies several times a month for work.
On your return, the driver tracks your flight and waits in the arrivals area, name sign in hand, before taking you back to Stockel, Kapelleveld or near Woluwe Park without a detour through the city. For a holiday departure, the Van takes up to six suitcases, and child seats booked with the journey are already fitted when the car arrives. Where exactly at Saint-Luc does the car drop me off?+
In front of the main entrance, at Avenue Hippocrate 10, where there is a drop-off zone for short stops. If your appointment is in a neighbouring building, such as the Institut Roi Albert II, mention it when booking, as access may differ. For the return, agree a time or message the driver at the end of your appointment; they will pick you up from the same spot.
I am having a procedure under sedation: how do I get home without driving?+
Book the complete journey as soon as you receive your appointment letter: the outward trip at the scheduled time, the return at the discharge time estimated by the department. If that time is uncertain, choose an hourly chauffeur instead, on quotation: the driver waits nearby until you come out, then takes you back to your door. Some departments require an adult to accompany the patient: check with the hospital.
For an early flight, is the airport really that close to Woluwe?+
Yes, it is one of the area's advantages: Woluwe lies between the centre and Zaventem, and the route to Brussels Airport does not pass through the city. The driver chooses between Boulevard de la Woluwe and the Ring depending on your address and the time of day. The pick-up time is agreed with you based on the departure time and the check-in and security times, which are longer for long-haul flights.
Avenue de Tervueren leads to the Africa museum: can you take us there?+
Yes. The museum devoted to Central Africa is in Tervuren, at the end of the avenue, on the edge of the Sonian Forest. The driver drops you there and, if you wish, stays at your disposal during your visit to bring you back afterwards or take you on to another address.
