Charleroi Airport → Brussels: what are the options?
Some sixty kilometres separate Gosselies from the Grand-Place, and the terminal has no railway station. Depending on when you land, the right choice can be completely different.
An airport with no station, an hour's drive away
From Brussels, the route follows the E19 and then the A54: just under an hour to the Gosselies terminal without traffic. Unlike Zaventem, the airport has no railway station, so a train journey always ends with a bus. According to SNCB, TEC buses have no longer served Luttre and Fleurus stations since 4 July 2026: only Charleroi-Central is still linked to the airport, by line A1.
When a flight leaves at dawn or lands late in the evening, connections quickly thin out. Before choosing, compare the scheduled landing time with the last possible departure to Brussels: the margin between the two needs to absorb any delay. By road, timing matters too: at rush hour, the approaches to the Brussels Ring add considerably to the journey, in both directions, whereas in the middle of the night it is a straight run.

The direct shuttle to Brussels-Midi
The airport's website refers travellers to the Flibco shuttles, which link the terminal with Brussels-Midi station and whose timetables, it says, are matched to flight times. The operator advertises a journey of around fifty-five minutes with no intermediate stops, and frequent departures during the day. At the airport, the stop is outside the exit of Terminal 1; in Brussels, the buses depart and arrive near Midi station, on the Rue de France side.
According to the operator, each ticket is valid for one journey at any time on the chosen day, until 04:00 the following morning: a delayed flight therefore does not cost you your ticket, and you simply board a later shuttle. The amount of luggage included depends on the fare you buy. The shuttle suits one or two people travelling light and staying near Midi. For an evening return, check the time of the last departure on the day.
Bus A1 and train via Charleroi-Central
TEC line A1 links Charleroi-Central station with the airport in about twenty minutes; according to the airport, buses leave the station from about 04:30 to 23:30, four times an hour. From Charleroi-Central, direct trains reach Brussels-Midi in around fifty minutes. With the wait for the connection and the last leg to your address, allow about an hour and a half in total to reach central Brussels.
SNCB advises entering 'CHARLEROI Airport [TEC]' as your destination in its journey planner, buying the train ticket with your usual discounts, then adding the Bus TEC Charleroi Airport Ticket separately in its multimodal section. Two tickets, then, but a well-signposted route. This option suits regular rail users travelling during the day, with no tight connection; it becomes risky as soon as the plane lands late in the evening.
Late arrivals: where it gets complicated
Take a flight due at 22:40 that finally lands at 23:20. On the current timetable, the last direct train from Charleroi-Central to Brussels-Midi leaves at around 22:30, on weekdays and Saturdays alike: it is long gone. Even if a last A1 bus gets you to Charleroi-Central, there is no longer a rail connection. That leaves the shuttle, whose last departure depends on the day's flight schedule, and the taxis on site, for a journey of some sixty kilometres.
The problem also exists in the other direction. On weekdays, the first direct train from Brussels-Midi does not reach Charleroi-Central until about 06:35; add the A1 bus and you reach the terminal at around 07:00, far too late for a flight scheduled at that time. These timetables may change: check them on the SNCB website on the day. For dawn departures and late-night returns alike, a solution booked the day before saves you gambling on the last trains.
When a pre-booked car makes sense
For a solo traveller landing at 15:00 with one bag, the shuttle does the job perfectly well. The calculation changes with children, ski or holiday luggage, a group of six, or an address in Waterloo, Uccle or Wemmel, far from Midi station. The driver monitors the actual landing time, meets passengers at the exit and drives them to the door with no changes along the way.
In terms of capacity, a sedan takes three people and two pieces of checked luggage, the Van up to seven passengers with six bags, and the Van Business six passengers in a lounge layout with tinted windows. The price depends on the distance and the class chosen; it is shown before you confirm. At Atemia, you can still send a request online up to three hours before departure, but for a dawn flight it is better to book the day before.

Where do I catch the shuttle to Brussels at Charleroi Airport?+
Outside the exit of Terminal 1: as you leave the arrivals area, follow the signs to the stop, which is also marked on the map published by the operator. Tickets are sold online, ideally before you travel. In Brussels, the shuttle arrives near Midi station, on the Rue de France side, from where metros, trams and trains leave for the rest of the city.

I land at Charleroi at 23:30: can I still get to Brussels?+
Not by train: on the current timetable, the last direct service leaves Charleroi-Central at around 22:30, and even a last A1 bus would only get you to the station after it had gone. First check the shuttle's last departure that day, as its timetable follows the flight schedule. Otherwise, there are taxis on site. To remove any uncertainty, book a car in advance: the driver adjusts the pick-up time to the actual landing.
Can six people travel with luggage from Charleroi to Brussels?+
Yes, in a Van: seven seats and six suitcases, or six seats and five suitcases in the more comfortable Van Business. On the shuttle, each ticket includes an amount of luggage that depends on the fare bought: for six people, the extras soon add up.
